Jorja Smith returns with double single 'Loving You' / 'Don't Let Me Go'

Grammy-nominated, UK superstar Jorja Smith today releases new music in the form of the double A-side single ‘Loving You’ / ‘Don’t Let Me Go’.

Leaning deeply into her trademark gorgeous soul-pop, both tracks feature long-time collaborator Maverick Sabre. ‘Loving You’ has a remarkable story - first written by Smith and Sabre ten years ago, they recently re-discovered it on an old hard drive and finished it off in a studio with producer Ed Thomas (Stormzy, Nia Archives, Paloma Faith). It is a beautifully rich track that explores the pain of being in love with someone that makes you unhappy but you are unable to leave. ‘I’ve finally found myself / And I’m tied to the wreckage of you / Terrified that I’m under your spell…and I keep on loving you / You got all of me, in my misery.’ Smith’s vocal is outstanding in its range and emotion, and a backing choir brings the warmth of gospel to the track.

Written at the same time and produced with New Machine and also featuring vocals from Maverick Sabre, ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ follows a similarly pared back soundscape as ‘Loving You’, yet thanks to the gently picked guitar it feels rawer and more acoustic. With Sabre harmonising behind Smith’s main vocal, she sings of the pain of losing the one you love to another. ‘I searched the seas a thousand times / The wishing wells got all my coins / But nothing seems to drift me back to you...she won’t ever love you like us.’

‘Loving You’ / ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ follows the single ‘High’ which was Smith’s first new music since her critically acclaimed second album Falling or Flying was released in 2023. Since its release, she has toured across the globe including Australia last month, culminating in a performance in Sydney as part of SXSW Sydney 2024. Today she announces more live dates, embarking on a 4 date tour across the UK in 2025. She will perform at venues she’s never performed in before, including the renowned O2 Apollo in Manchester, and wrapping up the tour in London’s prestigious Eventim Apollo.

A musical tour de force since she first appeared on the scene in 2016, Jorja Smith has become one of the UK’s most acclaimed and special artists. From soul to R&B to dance pop she is musically diverse and with her stunning voice her music quickly entrances you. ‘Loving You’ and ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ are both further highpoints in Smith’s career and are a beautiful way to round off another remarkable year from Smith.
