Amava releases new single 'Just Fine'
Nashville based singer-songwriter Amava today releases her new single ‘Just Fine’. A electro-synth-tinged, brooding pop track, the lyrics tell the story of wild parties and teenage rebellion, the outward signs of internal struggles we all go through yet try to hide. ‘There’s always someone who cries in the bathroom / While we all look for something to do…some day I’ll be somebody / Hope someday I’ll be somebody’ she sings.
“This song is my ode to the times where I’m wearing my brave face, and even in all the moments of fun and glitter, I feel this standstill of uncertainty and instability in my life”, Amava explains. “To me, it’s about the juxtaposition between having the time of my life and being internally squandering about how I don’t know where I’m going or how I’d rather be asleep. The song is a way I can process my messed up emotions into a waveform of what I’m feeling and give the chance for other people to relate to it as well.”
The song reflects Amava’s youth growing up in Oregon where she found she didn’t fit in and so put on the face of an extrovert despite her quiet and timid nature. The result was she struggled to fully express herself and so instead turned to music as her emotional outlet. “Music is the one place I could always go that was mine and only mine, my safe place and my home,” she says.
Inspired by artists such as Charli XCX, Phoebe Bridgers and Lorde, she released her first single in 2018 and has since released a number of pop tracks, with a variety of sounds from the dancefloor synth beats of 2020’s ‘Bodybag’ through to the folk-indie pop of ‘Zombies’. Amava is a musician who creates music with depth, heart and relatability and should be on your list of new discoveries for 2021.
