PREMIERE: L E X releases music video for debut single 'C'est La Vie'

Emerging singer/songwriter L E X released her debut single ‘C’est La Vie’ last week and today the music video launches exclusively on Women In Pop ahead of its general release tomorrow.

A brooding, dark pop track that explores the angst and emotional turmoil of growing up and finding your place in the world, it is an impressive debut from an artist who although not born into music is showcasing the talent, voice and ability to make waves in the industry in the coming years.

Working with Jaen Collective on the Gold Coast, the music video symbolises the struggles of finding yourself with L E X symbolically wearing a head covering, restrained in a box before emerging at the end of the video a free woman.

“I remember being so annoyed that I couldn’t go to Sydney as the borders were closed from Covid, so I thought I was going to have to hold off this release until the borders opened again because I thought I’d have to film the video in Sydney,” L E X says of creating the music video. “But then I found Jaen Collective on the Gold Coast, who I then got in talks with back and forth to try explain my ideas and see how we could make it come to life [within my budget]. Jon from Jaen loved my idea and was keen to work on it, so I creatively directed most of the video as I already had such a strong vision of exactly what I wanted and he helped it all come together. I wanted to portray the feeling of being suffocated/trapped in your own thoughts, then moving into an image of looking into yourself for power/change, and then finishing with a look of freedom, looking in on the brain.”
