Kaitlyn Velez releases new single 'can't have it your way'
New York based artist Kaitlyn Velez has released her first new music for 2021 with the single ‘can’t have it your way’
The song is a mellow pop-R&B track with a shuffling beat and Velez’s beautifully warm vocal which ingeniously hides a confident and absolutely direct message to a love rival to not mess with Velez: ‘I wanna say I’m sorry but I’m not….you gotta understand that you can’t have it your way’ she sings.
“I think it shows a different side of me. I’m a very lighthearted person but I have a sassy side that I don’t feel like I showcase in my music,” Velez says. “‘can’t have it your way’ is showing my listeners a whole different part of who I am. I can be assertive and sassy when necessary and I know how to keep it classy when doing so.”
‘can’t have it your way’ is Velez’s first single after she won a mentoring session with superstar Khalid in Reebok’s ‘Write Your Legacy’ competition. It follows on from a bumper debut year for Velez, currently studying at Berklee School of Music, releasing six single in 2020 including ‘comfortable’, one of Women In Pop’s Top 50 Tracks of 2020.
With a growing portfolio of highly polished and beautifully constructed pop music just one year into her career, Velez has a promising future ahead of her and with an EP hinted at later this year, 2021 is looking like another watershed year for Kaitlyn Velez.
