Sarah Wolfe releases new single 'I'll Never Be Happy Again'
Sydney singer/songwriter Sarah Wolfe today releases her new single ‘I’ll Never Be Happy Again’. Again showcasing Wolfe’s talent to authentically inhabit any soundscape she chooses, this single sees her embrace pop punk with elements of 1980s new wave and 1990s grunge. Rollicking, poppy verses give way to bolshy, buzzy choruses with Wolfe’s vocal erupting into a classic punk, pissed off scream against a fiery guitar as she laments the collapse of a relationship.
“‘I'll Never Be Happy Again’ is one of the first songs I wrote where I finally felt comfortable in my own sound,” Wolfe says. “It is loosely about a relationship that went wrong, but the more overarching theme for me is anxiety; how my head always makes things out to be far worse and far more dramatic than the situation actually is. I love how the lyrics play out over such a high energy soundtrack, I wanted this to be the point of hope in the song, a reminder that things do usually end up being ok. This song is as ridiculous as my own fears are sometimes!"
The single is the fifth release from Wolfe in 2020, with all tracks as unique as they are impressive. ‘U Think This Is A Game?’, a dark industrial pop song was followed by a cover of laid back, tender cover of ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ with real-life partner Xavier Dunn, which was personally handpicked by Normani to be included on her workout playlist on Spotify. June saw the release of ‘100 Times’ featuring The Flowers, a chilled out electro-guitar-pop track and August saw Wolfe reinvent the Jax Jones & RAYE classic ‘You Don’t Know Me’ as an indie-pop anthem for the various artists compilation EP Decade of Dance: Reworked.
Since she first appeared as a solo artist in 2019, this former music journalist has quietly but confidently created one of the most solid and enjoyable portfolio of sounds of any new artist in Australia right now. Stardom is surely around the corner and we can’t wait to hear what is next.
