Australian alt-pop star Yorke has released her new single ‘sorry in advance’ which will feature on her new EP unfinished business which is due to be released on 13 June.
Written by Yorke with Ciara Muscat (TWICE, RedVelvet, Itzy, tripleS) and Stuart Brander, and produced by SB90 (Thandi Phoenix, Fractures), it follows the singles ‘i wanna hate you’ and ‘love on the run’, and while those two tracks took Yorke down a glorious, electronic-synth pop sound, ‘sorry in advance’ takes a slightly different, but still delicious, sonic route that mixes both indie sounds and funk into its pop foundation.
The song shows Yorke brushing off men who want a relationship with her because she now has the confidence and experience to know exactly what she wants: ‘Please don’t take offence / I’m not gonna save your number…we both know how this ends.’ Yorke says the song is in many ways a sequel to her single 2021 single ‘Window Shopping’ that sees her doing anything she can to impress the object of her interest, with the song recently going viral in Japan.
“On the way to the studio that day, I found out that my song ‘Window Shopping’ was suddenly charting on Shazam in Japan, three years after its release,” Yorke says. “The response for that song over there has been pretty incredible to be honest. I started thinking about the songwriting itself, and how funny it was that if I'd written it now, I’d have a much more jaded/unapologetic view about dating (less trying to impress someone and more putting myself first). We played around with this idea in the session, and Window Shopping’s older sister song was born!”
‘sorry in advance’ will feature on Yorke’s upcoming EP unfinished business out on 13 June. Created in Australia, Los Angeles, London and New Zealand it solidifies this new chapter of her career as she dives deeper into the electronic pop world as well as reflecting her new confidence and assuredness in her lyrics.
“I just wanted to create a fun, dynamic pop project fans could dance to,” she says. “For me, unfinished business feels like the beginning of my creative freedom, and I’ve still got so much more left to give and so much room for growth.”
After the release of unfinished business Yorke will travel to Japan to perform with Japanese rock band Indigo la End on June 21 at their sold-out Tokyo International Forum Hall show.
A special talent since she dropped her debut single in 2019, Yorke is an artist that is getting stronger with each release. With the recent announcement she has been selected as an ARIA Collab artist that will see her work with GRAMMY- nominated producer Tommy Brown (Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, BTS), even bigger things look certain to be in store for Yorke in 2025. Her addictive new sonic direction, and exquisite artistry, will make unfinished business quite possibly her rewarding release yet.
