Venice Qin drops new single 'New Woman'
Published: 28 March 2025
Rising dance-pop sensation Venice Qin today drops her first new music of 2025, the empowering anthem ‘New Woman’.
Written by Qin and Maribelle (also known as artist Vetta Borne) and mixed by Lucy Blomkamp (Becca Hatch, Ninajirachi) and Antonia Gauci (Ke$ha, Jessica Mauboy, Troye Sivan), the song is a electronic powerhouse of a track with a thumping beat, addictive melodies and, as always, a glorious vocal performance from Qin.
Fitting in with the joyful feel of the music, the song is about surviving and thriving after a brutal break up ‘Now my tears have dried / I’m a new woman baby / Feeling so alive…you can’t kill my vibe,’ she sings.
"I wrote ‘New Woman’ while sitting on the floor of my apartment in Sydney,” Qin says. “At the time I had recently gone through the most horrific heartbreak (up until this point, lol), flown to China and back, just moved apartments, it was chaos. It’s the typical girl with heartbreak, and I am moving on story! We’ve all been there.”
“During the break-up, I remember sitting in my new apartment wishing I could move out,” she continues. “It was crazy, but every crevice and corner of the place held memories, it just felt so tainted by their touch. I knew I had to stop and redesign all the memories in my mind. I moved a few months later and finally felt I had begun a new chapter. I was a cleansed, refreshed ‘New Woman’ post-break up.”
Also out today is the official music video for ‘New Woman’. Qin flew to New York to make the video with Made_In and sees Qin channel Carrie Bradshaw, with the video opener seeing her perched on a New York stoop wearing a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes. The video will premiere at 5pm AEDT today.
Growing up in New Zealand, Qin broke through in 2018 with her debut single ‘Found Myself’, followed by the viral hit ‘Asshole’. In 2023 she released her debut EP Alien, a brilliant collection of classic, pure pop that remained experimental, from stripped back trance inspired pop through to full out, 1980s style synth pop. Her most recent single, the gloriously camp pop of ‘Rodeo Star’ was released in October last year, and with ‘New Woman’ she opens up the next chapter in her career.
A wonderfully charismatic singer who has a genius for creating the type of blissful pop that engages your head, heart and feet while always presenting you with the most delicious melodies and beats you can dream of, Qin is one of the brightest in the new breed of Australian pop stars and bringing her music into your life is highly recommended
‘New Woman’ is out now via Sony Music Australia. You can download and stream here.
