Riiki Reid drops summer drenched new single 'Over Romantic'

Aotearoa artist RIIKI REID (Ngāti Porou) has released her new single ‘Over Romantic’. It is her first new music since the release of her Skin EP in March last year.

Written by Reid with Phoebe Sinclair (Peptalk), and Liam Quinn (Peach PRC, Rita Ora, Ruel, Sigala) and produced by Quinn, ‘Over Romantic’ is an impossibly delicious, bright pop track that opens with shimmering synths and later brings a guitar into the electronic beats making the song the perfect soundtrack for the last days of summer.

Reid’s gorgeous vocal glides over tumbling melodies as she sings of a heady summer romance where nothing else matters except your crush: ‘The sun is hot but I’ve seen hotter before / You know you make my temperature high…I like you as a lover / And I just can't get enough’

“‘Over Romantic’ follows this story of meeting someone for the first time in the summer, but really, it's just about romanticising the summer,” Reid says. “I would love this song to feel like that for people, because that's how it feels for me. I want this song to be the memento you take away from your summer. I always end up having a song every summer, where I’m like, that song was the song that reminds me of summer 2017.”

First coming to prominence in 2019 when her single ‘High Heights’ became an online hit, swith just under four million streams in Spotify alone. She has since gone on to release a number of EPs and played shows with major stars including Lorde, L.A.B., Dave Dobbyn, Budjerah, Ashe and Benson Boone.

With a soundscape that spans multiple genres from electropop through to indie, Reid is one of New Zealand’s most exciting artists and never fails to deliver truly exceptional pop music. With more music coming from Reid in the near future she has never sounded more confident and if ‘Over Romantic’ is any indication, her upcoming project is destined to be an absolute treat.
