West Melbourne, two times ARIA-nominated artist PANIA today releases her new single ‘Switch Sides’, her first new solo music since 2023.

Produced by aywy, ‘Switch Sides’ is a moody, atmospheric R&B track with bursts of saxophone, a form of reclamation for PANIA as she speaks the sometimes painful truth of how relationships changed as her success in music grew: ‘Telling everyone to go against me / You stepped out on me’

“‘Switch Sides’ is about coming to terms with the people I’ve lost along my journey. Being a confident, ambitious woman with potential in Australia seems to have been a threat to some, and I’ve had people turn on me the moment they felt intimidated,” she says. “From lies and attempts at public humiliation online from strangers and people I called friends, and even gatekeeping within the industry - it’s all been deeply hurtful, but I never spoke out about it until now. This song channels all of that hurt and all of that energy. I feel the song is a bold statement: I’ve learnt to protect my energy so you’re either with me or against me, pick a side.”

First releasing music in 2020, PANIA quickly became one of the leading lights in the local Australian R&B music scene. Over the coming years, her introspective lyrics on love, life and relationships mixed with impressive vocals and a soundscape that sets the standard for contemporary R&B, attracted critical acclaim and an ever growing fan base. She released her first EP burnt ur clothes & changed the addy in 2022, followed by WE STILL YOUNG in 2023 and has supported global acts including Kehlani, RAYE, Givēon and Anees. Last year, she was also invited to join Coldplay on stage for two nights in Melbourne.
