PREMIERE: Meali Grace releases tender new single 'Eyes 4 U'

Meali Grace may only be 21 but she is firmly setting out her credentials as a major new talent on the rise. With a voice that is beautifully emotive and warm, and a soundscape that is gentle and hypnotic but also full of texture and layers, her music is guaranteed to forge an instant connection.
This Thursday she releases her new single ‘Eyes 4 U’, but today you can listen to it exclusively here on Women In Pop. A tender, soulful guitar ballad with sweeping, gorgeous melodies the song gradually builds, adding in extra layers from ethereal backing vocals to swelling instrumentation and soaring vocals before winding down to an acoustic ending.
The cinematic, at times dramatic, sonics tie in perfectly with the moving lyrics which tell a story of unrequited love - falling completely in love with a friend but realising they don’t see you in that way. ‘If only you could just see / But I just don’t think you have eyes for me,’ Grace sings.
"I wanted to create a song that speaks to the bittersweet nature of unrequited love, capturing both the pain and hope accompanying it.,” Grace explains. “The quote “To be fully loved is to be fully known” is one of my favourites because there is no denying that these two things are impossible to separate. Someone can see you but not fully know you. ’Eyes 4 U’ is about the longing to be fully seen and valued for who you truly are, and the belief that this recognition can lead to a deeper connection, whether it be romantic or platonic. The song features a beautiful finger-picking guitar style, which allows the listener to reflect on the beautiful but tragic story being played out between two people. The song reaches a climax in the bridge section as it opens up. The instrumentation, layered vocals and lyrics together depict this cry of desperation. The desperation to know the answer to the burning question of ‘what if?’”
Releasing her first single ‘Upstream’ in March, which was followed by ‘Easy To Remember’ in May, Grace has quickly attracted attention, including airplay on Triple J’s Home & Hosed show.
