PREMIERE: Cinta releases new single 'Walls'

Modern soul artist Cinta is inspired by legends such as Lauryn Hill, Aretha Franklin, Erykah Badu and Sade, and just like them she takes the familiar and infuses it with the unique and new, creating music that is comfortingly recognisable while also being thrilling in its individuality.
This Friday, Cinta releases her new single ‘Walls’, but today you can listen to the song exclusively here on Women In Pop. With a soundscape that includes soul, R&B, pop snd jazz, the song begins with backing vocals and just a piano, before the beat kicks in with further instrumentation and Cinta’s compelling vocals takes ownership of the song with its ability to veer between powerful and gentle, and raspy to soft. The backing vocals carry throughout the track, sometimes intruding into the main vocal, in a purposeful style to indicate ‘the clouded thoughts of a stormy mind.’
Lyrically the song tells of the internal struggle between the light and dark that is in within us all and the internal walls we build: ‘Nobody told me / I’d end up my own worst enemy.’
“The song explores the relationship between the dark and the light within,” Cinta says. “It delves into the struggle between these two sides—how the ego, driven by fear and self-preservation, often holds us back, keeping that ‘freedom fighter’ within at bay. ‘Walls’ captures that internal battle of vulnerability versus protection.”
‘Walls’ will feature on Cinta’s new album Worth Control, released on 22 November. Mixed by Nick Herrera (Hiatus Kaiyote) the album will be steeped in modern R&B and feature performances both from Cinta’s band and some of Sydney’s finest musicians. Alongside the album release, Cinta will also be embarking on a double headline tour with Ella Haber, performing three shows in Sydney, Thirroul and Melbourne.
