Kita Alexander returns with dance floor anthem 'Queen'

Australia’s Kita Alexander returns today with her first new music of 2023, the dance floor anthem ‘Queen’, as well as announcing her first ever headline tour will be kicking off in May.

A gorgeous, electropop dance gem with a mesmerising beat and feel good energy, lyrically it is a reminder to embrace every part of you and celebrate the star within, even if it is just you dancing alone in the kitchen. “I’m dancing with myself like everyone’s watching / I’m standing in the spotlight, Madison Square Garden / When it’s just me…I’m a dancing queen,” Alexander sings.

“‘Queen’ was born out of a need to write an upbeat dance song,” Alexander says. “My dilemma with that was that I don’t think I can dance. I’m self-conscious about the length of my limbs and find it very hard to loosen up on the dance floor or in front of anyone for a matter of fact. During the 4 months during Covid that my husband [surfer Owen Wright] was away for the Olympics, I found myself alone in the kitchen more often than not. I discovered that I actually love to dance and really go for it when no one’s watching me. Even if one of my kids sneak out of bed and tries to watch me I get more conscious of the way my body is moving. I find this incredibly ironic because I perform for a living. This song is all about feeling like a superstar when you’re all alone.”

To celebrate the release of ‘Queen’, Alexander will be heading out on her debut headline tour, The Self-Titled Tour, in May with performance in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Alongside her hits and fan favourites, Alexander will be performing brand new music for the first time.

Ever since her debut single ‘My Own Way’ was released in 2015, Alexander has accumulated over 145 million global streams as well as mass critical praise for her music, which can be deeply emotional and moving as well as joyous, uplifting and an unstoppable rush of fun. ‘Queen’ is a highlight of her career to date and is an indication that her upcoming music is going to be very special indeed. It’s only Thursday, but you might just have found your weekend anthem.
