Australia’s Kita Alexander today releases new single ‘Ocean Blue’ which is lifted from her forthcoming EP due for release later this year.
The track is a delicious, carefree pop song that fluctuates between quieter moments and full blooded beats and has elements of pop, rock and synthpop. Alexander’s vocals sublimely glide across the music creating a song that is a perfect example of classic, unadulterated pop.
Lyrically, ‘Ocean Blue’ is a melancholic exploration of fantasy crushes and unrequited love. “Do you even know what you’re playing at?…Could you, would you / Be the moon to my ocean blue? / Do you want to give your love up?” she sings.
“This is probably the cheeky, playful side of me that people haven’t seen,” Alexander says. “It’s just another example of what I can do and how different songs and sounds fit into my world.”
‘Ocean Blue’ is the third single to be released from Alexander’s third EP, following ‘Run’ and ‘Storm’, which is due to be released later this year. It will be another addition to her impressive portfolio of music, which has seen her accumulate over 133 million streams since she first released music in 2015. While her music continues to come directly from her own experience and deals with the entanglements of love and loss, her most recent singles have headed further into an electronic soundscape and her new EP is proof of Alexander’s innate ability to evolve and grow her sound while remaining true to her roots. More new music from Kita Alexander can’t come soon enough.
‘Ocean Blue’ is out now via Warner Music. You can download and stream here.
