Jade Bird releases new single 'Headstart'
The UK’s Jade Bird has returned with new single ‘Headstart’, her first new music since her debut album Jade Bird was released last year.
A rollicking indie-rock-pop with elements of country and folk, all together with Bird’s remarkably raw and honest vocal with brings to mind icons such as Janis Joplin and Dolly Parton. A rush of a track that lasts less than two-and-a-half minutes, it’s beat and melodies quickly become a ear worm.
“‘Headstart’ came out of a trip I made to upstate New York at the beginning of the year,” Bird says of the song. “Being there, I was immediately taken back to the magic and inspiration of creating the first album. It’s quite a light-hearted song, about liking someone who just can’t see the signs, but more than that releasing it feels like a way to give a bit of joy to the end of the year. It feels like community to me, and it makes me want to sing again.”
Born in Hexham in the UK, Bird first came to attention with her debut EP Something American in 2017 and her music was soon attracting Spotify streams in the millions. Her self-titled album arrived in 2019 and contained 12 visceral, indie-rock-pop tracks which peaked in the top 10 in the UK and hit number 1 on the US Billboard Heatseekers Chart. After her phenomenal start in the industry, Bird’s star is now well and truly on the rise and with new music as good as this, we can expect big things from Bird in the coming months.
‘Headstart’ is out now via Glassnote Records. You can stream and download it here.
