Independent artist YAGKI returns with new single 'Adults'

Lebanese/Australian independent artist YAGKI today returns with her first new music of 2025, the single ‘Adults’.
With a classic indie-pop sound, touches of synth and a thumping beat, ‘Adults’ is a deeply confessional and personal song that details YAGKI’s relationship with her former university lecturer and the imbalance of power, a story that also mirrors similar behaviour by those in control in the music industry. The angst and drama in the song is reflected in the music, as the song builds and builds into a deeper, more complex soundscape as the tension rises - ‘I can’t make you happier’ - before ending abruptly on a reverbed vocal.
"I had an intimate relationship with my ex-uni lecturer just a year after finishing my course,” YAGKI says of the inspiration behind the song. “I met him at 17 when I enrolled in a music university, and in only two months, the teacher who once inspired me shattered my admiration through an intense imbalance of power. I found myself sharing a bed with him only when we shared his medicated weed, and I tried to distance myself until he finally let go. 'Adults' is about people in the music industry who abuse their power and authority, failing to take responsibility for those who look up to them the most."
To celebrate the release of ‘Adults’, YAGKI will be embarking on a three city tour across WA, NSW and VIC in January and February, performing with artists including Playlunch, Sophian and REX. Tickets are on sale now.
YAGKI is a captivating artist who masterfully brings together brutally honest stories of her life with music that is powerfully engaging and accessible, that feels intimately connected to you as a listener. ‘Adults’ embodies this ethos brilliantly and is a promising start to 2025 for YAGKI.
