Griff releases new single 'Vertigo'
Rising superstar Griff today returns with her new single ‘Vertigo’, her first new music of 2023.
Written and produced by Griff with Sam Tsang, ‘Vertigo’ is a sweeping, dramatic electronic pop track that slowly builds throughout with a minimal soundscape giving way to bursts of bubbling synths and ever insistent beats. Lyrically it explores the frustration of wanting to be someone who has a fear of committing - “I wasn’t asking for a lifetime / I was just asking you to take my hand” - as well as the disorientation and growing pains we experience as we transition from a teenager to a young adult.
“Vertigo refers to an emotional state - always feeling upside down,” Griff says. “Experiencing love and growing up, it always feels like the world and my emotions are spinning faster than I can keep up with. ‘Vertigo’ is the beginning of a new creative chapter for me, and I’m excited for us all to go on this journey together.”
Griff has been attracting attention since she first started releasing music in 2019. Initially building a huge fanbase online and attracting streams in the millions, she crossed over to mainstream success in 2021 with the single ‘Black Hole’ breaking into the UK top 20 singles chart and winning the Rising Star Award at the Brit Awards. The same year her debut mixtape One Foot In Front Of The Other shot to number 4 in the UK and she was soon touring with major superstars including Dua Lipa, Florence + the Machine, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran.
One of the brightest young singers in the UK right now, Griff always makes music that mesmerises. It is expertly crafted, full of heart and beautiful lyrics that have a wisdom and maturity beyond her years. ‘Vertigo’ is a welcome return for Griff and promises greater things for her to come in the future.
‘Vertigo’ is out now via Warner Music. You can download and stream here.
