Ghanaian-Australia sibling duo Kinder (Briony and Savannah Osei) today return with their new single ‘Lightyears’, produced by the UK’s BCBC.
‘Lightyears’ marks another evolution in Kinder’s sound and it teams a thumping electronic beat with piano and distorted vocals, all encased in an absolutely banging dance track. It brings to mind the very best of late 1990s house music given a 2023 makeover. One of their favourite tracks they have ever written, the song is a call to forget your troubles and live in the moment.
“To us, it's just about being in the present and having gratitude for that moment,” Kinder say. “Not future tripping and just taking things one day at a time. BCBC’s production is immediate and fun, we love how it just doesn't hold back, he has really gone for it, kind of symbolic to the song's meaning, don't hold back or think about tomorrow - just experience it and go all in.”
Singers, songwriters, producers and DJs who cut their teeth in the club world, Kinder have been at the forefront of Australian dance music since they released their debut single in 2018. Last year saw the release of two EPs Yenko and Akwaaba, and this year to date they covered Nelly Furtado’s ‘Say It Right’ for triple J Like A version, DJ-ed at the Vogue x Barbie event, and collaborated with Stevan and Reckz’Capo. Kinder will be touring throughout October and November and with music as good as ‘Lightyears’ are the perfect soundtrack for the upcoming summer.
‘Lightyears’ is out now via Warner Music. You can download and stream here.
