girl in red teams up with Sabrina Carpenter on new single 'You Need Me Now?'
Norway’s girl in red (real name Marie Ulven) has released her new single ‘You Need Me Now?’ which sees her team up with American star Sabrina Carpenter.
It is the latest taste from her second album I’m Doing It Again Baby! which will be released on April 12. Written by Ulven, Carpenter and Matias Tellez and produced by Ulven and Tellez., ‘You Need Me Now?’ is a buzzy, bouncy track that bristle with rock guitar mixed with a frenetic beat and some lush melodies. Lyrically it looks at a relationship that has ended, yet the other party wants to start things up again: “You’re swinging right back like a pendulum babe / Acting like you never left in the first place / Can you get it in your brain / I’m not playing your games this time,” she sings.
Carpenter’s entry to the song comes with an epic spoken word section from Ulven: “You know what would be really fucking cool on this? Sabrina. Like, if we could get Sabrina on this,” before Carpenter enters with a “Oh my God, you're so right. I'm gonna sing now.”
Directly after the release of the I’m Doing It Again Baby! girl in red will embark on the Doing It Again Tour which will visit North America and Europe. Opening in Boston on April 16, she will tour right through until October 5 with the final show in Finland.
After first releasing music in 2017 with the single ‘I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend’, girl in red has amassed a huge global following, in the process becoming a queer icon. Her 2021 debut album If I Could Make It Go Quiet hit the top 10 in her home country, Australia and the UK and she spent the bulk of 2023 touring with Taylor Swift as the support on her Eras Tour. I’m Doing It Again Baby! promises to showcase Ulven’s ability to create intimately honest and relatable music alongside blasts of pure joy. It will undoubtedly a musical highlight of this April.
