Australia’s GRAACE today returns with the single ‘Jealous Type’, her first new music since 2022.
The song is a gorgeous pop track with a rock edge, beautiful melodies and soaring harmonies. The song is a honest self reflection on your personality traits, in this case a controlling jealousy of your partner when you are in a relationship. ‘When you signed up / I was the jealous type / Don’t ever cross that line / Never forget you’re mine’ GRAACE sings.
“I learned in my early twenties that I wasn’t loving all the versions of myself yet,” GRAACE says. “I can be a bitch and also be kind. I can be creative and also be lazy. I can be, and do, all of these things. As women, we're so diverse and I was so sick of being pigeonholed.”
“It feels so much more powerful and in tune with myself than a lot of stuff that I've released before” she says of ‘Jealous Type’. “I've shielded away from talking about a lot of things in the past, but this time around I wanted to be very candid. I’m accepting that I’m not always the chill partner in a relationship, that sometimes I can become jealous, and that it’s ok to honour those two sides of myself.”
GRAACE first came to promience as the co-writer and featured vocalist on the 2017 Hayden James hit ‘Numb’, and the following year launched her solo career with the melancholic, down tempo electro pop track ‘Kissing Boys’. Her debut EP Self Sabotage was released in 2018, with the follow up EP Self Preservation dropping in 2022. GRAACE’s lyrics are always searingly honest and explore her life experiences without filter, making them supremely relatable in the process, while her soundscapes include indie, pop, folk and electronic dance pop.
An artist whose music will never fail to move you, GRAACE’s return is a welcome event in the 2024 music calendar. With hundreds of unreleased tracks created during her time away, this next era in GRAACE’s music is going to be a spectacular one.
