girl in red releases sequel single 'October Passed Me By'

Norway’s girl in red has become one of this generation’s most popular and inspirational indie-pop musicians. Since first releasing music in 2015, she has scored a global top 10 hit with her 2021 debut album If I Could Make It Go Quiet and has won multiple awards including three Norwegian Grammys.

One of her most defining moments came in 2018 with the release of the single ‘We Fell in Love in October’. A fuzzy, indiepop autumnal love song - ‘We fell in love in October / That’s why I love fall’ - the track has accumulated over 525 million streams on Spotify alone and has earned Gold status in Australia, Silver status in the UK and Platinum status in the US. The track has a special place in the hearts of girl in red’s fans and each year around this time they declare it ‘girl in red season’ and the song receives a boost in popularity.

As a thank you to her fans, girl in red has just released a sequel to the song, ‘October Passed Me By’. A beautiful, melancholic, loving song that gently sways with a electro-indie beat, it looks back at the collapse of the relationship that begun in ‘We Fell in Love in October’. ‘I met you at the wrong time / Didn’t wanna see / I was busy with the stars…but for what it’s worth / I made you my whole world,” she sings.

“’October Passed Me By’ has been living in the back of my head since June 2021,” she says. “Every fall since I put out ‘We Fell in Love in October’ in 2018, I was encouraged to do things on social media to talk about the song again. Making TikToks, Instagram posts and other things about a song I made years ago never felt honest. I’m not in the same place as I was when I wrote the song, emotionally or artistically, so pretending to be so felt boring and uninteresting. So, I never did any of that; but last year something happened in my personal love life that brought up a lot of feelings that I had to confront internally.

 ‘October Passed Me By’ is where I’m at today, emotionally and musically. Grateful for what has been, and full of love for a very special person that made a huge impact on me as a person. And also, I thought it was way cooler to expand the ‘We Fell in Love in October’ universe artistically, rather than making some uninspired videos that will disappear into the black hole of content that is TikTok.”

Also out now is the ‘October Passed Me By’ short film. Directed by Gustav Johansson and starring respected Norwegian actress Lisa Loven Kongsli as well as Ruth Vega Fernandes, it is a moving, emotional and bittersweet portrayal of the story relayed in both ‘October’ songs.

girl in red is an artist that always wears her heart on her sleeve and pours her everything into her music. ‘October Passed Me By’ is a stunning track and is destined to become a girl in red classic in the same way ‘We Fell in Love in October’ has become.
