AURORA releases new single 'Giving In To The Love' and reveals third studio album will be released in January
Norway’s Aurora has released her new single ‘Giving In To The Love’. A mesmerising pop rock track underpinned by a primal beat and Aurora’s remarkably flexible voice which effortlessly veers from deep to falsetto. With echoes of 1980s pop, 1990s indie and even French chanson, it is another remarkably eclectic release from Aurora whose genius for making fascinating and intricate pop only seems to get better with every release. “I was thinking about Prometheus [Greek god of fire], and how he stole the fire to sculpt us - the humans,” Aurora says of the single. “I feel like we sometimes forget that we are living creatures, capable of so many beautiful things. And the human’s current obsession with beauty makes us forget and devalue the fire that rests within us. Our inner self, and most important part.”
The single is the second taste from Aurora’s third studio album The Gods We Can Touch which she has announced will be released on January 21, 2022. The album has a running theme, inspired by Greek mythology, of humanity, shame, desire and morality with each of the 15 tracks introducing us to a different god. “The spiritual door between the human and the gods is a very complicated thing,” she says of the album. “In the right hands faith can become the most beautiful thing. Nurturing and warm. And in the wrong hands it can become a beacon of war and death. One thing that has always bothered me is the idea that we’re born unworthy, having to deem ourselves worthy by suppressing the forces within us that make us human. Not perfect, not flawless, just human. Could we find this Divine power in ourselves, while still being attached and seduced to the wonders of the world. The flesh, the fruit and the wine. I think that is what intrigues me about the Greek gods. The gods of the ancient world. Perfectly imperfect. Almost within our reach. Like gods we can touch.”
‘Giving In To The Love’ caps off an impressive year for Aurora. Earlier in 2021 she achieved huge success with the song ‘Runaway’, a song she wrote when she was just 12 and first released in 2015, this year it soared into the top 40 around the world, including in Australia and the UK after it went viral on TikTok. In July this year, she released ‘Cure For Me’ which has amassed over 12 million views on YouTube and 13 million streams on Spotify alone.
The inspiration for artists such as Billie Eilish to pursue a career in music, Aurora is one of the most creative and fascinating artists of our generation and with her music and sound continually evolving, The Gods We Can Touch promises to be the best album of her career to date.
