AURORA releases stunning new single 'Exist For Love'
Norwegian singer-songwriter AURORA has been one of the most unique, talented and downright mesmerising artists on the music scene for what has been the best part of a decade. Her magical, at times ethereal music has drawn on folk influences inspired by her childhood love of Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, whilst still retaining a contemporary pop sound, and in recent years - particularly with the release of last year’s album A Different Kind Of Human (Step II) - she has explored harder, dance and electro beats with results that are never less than brilliant.
Today she releases the first single from what she has named on social media ‘chapter 3’ of her music career, ‘Exist For Love’. A major sonic departure from her previous music, for perhaps the first time in her career AURORA has released a sparse, stripped back, acoustic, poetic love song. With not an electronic beat in sight, AURORA’s voice soars in an intimate, gentle tone backed by guitar, strings and a piano as she serenades her lover. “And when you say my name / Like white horses on the waves / I think it feels the same as an ocean in my veins…and we exist for love.” With harmonies and melodies evoking the 1920s and 30s, the song is evidence of the depth of AURORA’s talent that she can pull off something so left of field (for her) so successfully. “I thought I didn’t have a love song within me,” she said about the song. “Until one day a few years ago, when I realized what a heavenly thing love is. Yes, it makes us human, but it also makes us divine. Whatever you’re using that love for. Or who. The touch of it will leave a print in us. It may be newborn love, it might be grief. But still we dare to love. Again and again. And when we get to experience that love, I think we understand why we exist. We exist for love.” Take a listen now and fall in love.
