Norway’s Aurora has released her latest single, ‘The Conflict of the Mind’. It follows on from November’s ‘Your Blood’, her first new solo music in over a year.
Written by Aurora and produced by Chris Greatti (Lady Gaga, Willow, Grimes, Yungblud), ‘The Conflict of the Mind’ is a gorgeously gentle pop track that melds a soft electronic beat with elements of jazz and soul and a soaring vocal from Aurora. Lyrically it explores isolation and mental health, with an empowering message that the pain is temporary. ‘Don't let your spirit die / This is just a conflict of the mind / Is your heart alive? / You'll overcome a conflict of the mind,’ she sings.
Also out now is the music video for the song, which sees Aurora at a family dinner struggling to fit in, while those around her also seemingly battle their own internal pain.
“I tend to isolate myself when I’m in pain. And with time, I’ve learnt that I’ve deprived the people around me of the great honour of being there for someone you love,” Aurora says. “Deep in there, beneath all the darkness, there is beauty. Once you’ve truly opened up you’ll find a version of yourself you thought was gone. And it will be beautiful. Talk to each other before it’s too late. All families have pain, and I believe talking to each other is an important part of healing. After the storm, comes peace.“
Releasing music since 2013, Aurora has gone on to become one of the most influential artists from the 2010s, with none other than Billie Eilish saying Aurora inspired her to first start making music. In 2021, her 2016 single ‘Runaway’ went viral, gaining a second lease of life charting in the top 40 across the world including in Australia and the UK. Her 2022 album The Gods We Can Touch became her biggest hit yet, soaring to number 1 in her home country and also the top 10 in the UK. Overall, Aurora has a staggering 10 billion streams to her name.
Now entering a new chapter in her incredible career, Aurora is as captivating, mesmerising and inspiring as ever and more new music from her is going to be one of 2024’s high points.
