Today Swedish musician Anna Arco returns with her new single ‘Higher’. Her first new release since March, it is the second single to be released from her upcoming album Sad Secret Songs, due next year.
‘Higher’ is an elegy to a best friend who passed away and like everything Arco does, is a breathtakingly beautiful, moving pop track that connects deeply with your soul. With elements of electro, soul and experimental art pop, Arco’s passionate and emotive voice wrap around the vulnerability of the lyrics as she deals with loss: “I still can’t believe that she’s gone / Maybe she’s just in hiding / I’ll be waiting for her return”.
“I could never tell my deepest, darkest secrets to anyone. Except my best friend. I both could, and wanted to,” Arco says.” She passed away in 2018 and Sad Secret Songs is a distillate of the grieving process. It may never end, but I believe and hope that the sorrow and the secrets get a bit easier to carry if you share them with someone.”
Arco first starting releasing music in 2016 as part of the jazz quartet Berglund Band. After studying a masters degree in jazz vocals, she launched her solo career in 2017 with the desire to release genre-free music. Last year she released her debut album Songs Within the Spectrum, a remarkable collection of warm, intimate songs which true to her mantra remained genre free, whilst remaining completely cohesive.
New music from Anna Arco is always something to cherish, and with ‘Higher’ she has again produced something truly special. Sad Secret Songs is promising to be an album that will be one of 2021’s highlights.
‘Higher’ is out now. You can download on iTunes and stream on Apple Music and Spotify.
