Jessica Mauboy launches new single 'Automatic'

One of Australia’s most beloved artists Jessica Mauboy today returns with new single ‘Automatic’, her first new music of 2022.

Produced by George Reid (AlunaGeorge) and written with Cosmos Midnight and Sophie Curtis (Aston), the track has a slick and funky electronica meets R&B sound and lyrically explores the concept of taking control of your life.

“‘Automatic’ is about having faith in your own sense of direction and firmly taking the driver’s seat in all aspects of your life,” Mauboy says. “Believe in your intuition and don’t be afraid to give yourself permission to explore that - the little voice in your head is usually always right. It was a serious blast to hit the studio with George Reid & co-writers Cosmos Midnight and Sophie Curtis to make this song.”

Also out now is the music video for ‘Automatic’ which sees Mauboy in a new light as she burns up the dirt in a quad bike on her Auntie’s property in Darwin.

“‘Automatic’ is such a fun and energetic song, I knew I wanted to go big with this video and to allow fans to see me in a way they had never seen me before” she says. .“ Growing up in the open bush lands of Darwin, driving Dad's ute and riding quad bikes with my friends and family, I couldn’t resist hitting the dirt to bring that boss lady energy to the track.”

‘Automatic’ is the second track in what is something of a musical rebirth for Mauboy, after last year’s ‘Glow’ and her signing with Warner Music Australia. There has been a noticeable shift in her sound to more glistening R&B infused electronic pop with a delicious experimental feel which makes it stand out from the pack. Grabbing us by the heart since 2006, Mauboy is an artist that has evolved and developed over the years and is creating some of her best work right now, showing exactly why she is one of Australia’s most successful artists. More new music can’t come quick enough.
