Vetta Borne returns with disco inspired new single 'Kissing Strangers'
Melbourne based singer-songwriter Vetta Borne (real name Maribelle Anes) today releases her new single ‘Kissing Strangers’. Moving away from the smooth, R&B soul vibe of last year’s ‘Beyoncé’, the track is a sonic companion to last year’s ‘Girls’ and ‘Home’ and has a delicious, 1970’s infused funk bassline, coupled with disco inspired beats and soaring melodies all held together by Anes’s majestic and emotive vocals.
In contrast to its feel good sounds, the lyrics of the song portray the heartbreaking end of a relationship. “Is she okay? / Cause I know that I hurt her…I swear I really loved her / But I had to let go’ Borne sings before her voice becomes almost a whisper at the end as she repeats ‘I can’t believe it’s over’ in one of the song’s most moving moments. “I wrote ‘Kissing Strangers’ about a relationship I knew I had out-grown,” Anes reveals. “I was experiencing the bittersweet feeling of heartbreak and excitement from making the right decisions for myself. I was ready to move on to the next phase of my life, and all I could do was hope that the other person was okay while I gave her space to move on too.”
‘Kissing Strangers’ is the second taste of Anes’s EP Emelia which is due to be released later this year, her second EP under her Vetta Borne project. As well as forging an impressive solo career, Anes has also been making a name for herself behind the scenes, including producing and co-writing George Alice’s Triple J Unearthed winner ‘Circles’ and Kira Puru’s ‘Chillin’’.
With a talent for creating warm, immersive music that seems to get better with every release, Anes is proving to be one of the artists to watch in Australia this year and we recommend you tune in now.
‘Kissing Strangers’ is out now via Soul Modern. You can download and stream here.
