Tove Lo releases new single, dance floor banger '2 Die 4'
Sweden’s Tove Lo today releases her new single ‘2 Die 4’, the fourth single from her upcoming fifth studio album DIRT FEMME and ahead of her Lollapalooza performance today in Chicago.
After the release of the heartbreaking ballad ‘True Romance’ in June, ‘2 Die 4’ sees Lo firmly return to the dancefloor. Sampling the iconic 1972 synth tune ‘Popcorn’ by Hot Butter, the song has a thumping beat with a steadily swelling soundscape and mixes house, electronica with synthpop. It’s the type of song that instantly conjures up the feelings of abandonment on a crowded dancefloor or a beachside festival at the height of summer.
“With ‘2 Die 4’ I wanted ‘instantly iconic’ energy,” Lo says. “I've never sampled anything before, and this feels like the perfect first moment.” Tove shares. Lyrically I wanted it to be that ‘pick me up when I'm feeling down’ song. At first, it's like a warm hug, then you shake it off, let out a scream and start dancing!”
Also out today is the accompanying scene, directed by Kenny Laubbacher, number 3 in the series of scenes Lo is releasing for the singles from DIRT FEMME. “I wanted to make something nostalgic, sexy and iconic,” Lo says. “The character for this scene is Wonder Woman with big dick energy, and I just love it. Now, if you know what’s good for you, go listen on repeat.”
DIRT FEMME is Lo’s fifth studio album, and first since 2019’s Sunshine Kitty. Due to be released on October 14, it has been preceded by the huge singles ‘How Long’, from TV hit Euphoria, which has accumulated over 31 million streams, and the sublime, melancholic synthpop gem ‘No One Dies From Love’, currently sitting on 20 millions streams on Spotify alone. In September, Lo will be heading to Australia to perform at the Listen Out festival in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, and Brisbane.
As an artist, feminist, activist and songwriter (she has written songs for artists such as Dua Lipa, Liam Gallagher and Hilary Duff), amongst many other skills, Tove Lo is one of the most exciting and beguiling musicians to emerge from Sweden in the last decade. Hitting a creative high in 2022, DIRT FEMME promises to her best album to date, if not one of the greatest albums of 2022. It will be an album to savour.
