PREMIERE: Nuria launches video for new single 'Red Velvet'
Tasmanian singer-songwriter Nuria released her new single ‘Red Velvet’ earlier this week and today the music video premieres exclusively here on Women In Pop. A gorgeous pop track with touches of indie and soul, the song was produced in Melbourne with Sam Phay.
“‘Red Velvet’ is a song about the external observation of self - observing the roles that we play in our life and the component of performance in our everyday life,” Nuria says. “The song considers the perspective that we are our own most important audience members and that we owe ourselves honesty and integrity in the way we live our lives. This concept is illustrated through the story of showgirl with her glossy exterior contrasting with glimpses of her vulnerable inner world.”
Filmed by award winning Tasmanian filmmaker Daniel Peek, the music video was shot in Hobart’s iconic Theatre Royal and features five dancers from the local burlesque group, The Moonlight Aviators. The video shows the theatrical experience from both sides of the curtain as Nuria in an out of body experience watches herself performing on stage.
"‘Red Velvet’ explores the inner and outer world of a performer,” Nuria says. “Set in Hobart’s famous Theatre Royal the music video moves between the backstage and audience viewpoint to examine self from this inward and outward perspective. The concept behind the song and video is illustrated through the opulent theatre world but is inspired from our everyday behaviours - what we choose to reveal and what we choose to hide from ourselves and others.”
The third single from Nuria this year after ‘Juliette’ and ‘Closer’, ‘Red Velvet’ is the next step before the release of Nuria’s second album next month. Until then, take a look at the video for ‘Red Velvet’ exclusively below before its general release on Friday.
