West Melbourne’s PANIA is quickly becoming the face of R&B in Australia. After launching her superb debut EP burnt ur clothes & changed the addy last November, today she returns with not one but two singles, collected under the title P PACK.

The two songs showcase her versatility, displaying two different sonic sides of PANIA. Single ‘P STANDS 4 PLAYA’ is a smooth, soulful track with a funky beat, tinkly instrumentals and a vocal performance from PANIA that moves from gritty to angelic, all wrapped up in 1980s vibes.

The second track ‘2sides (freestyle)’ is a gorgeous, stripped back ballad with piano, discordant electronic sounds with a vulnerable vocal performance from PANIA as she sings about a relationship between two people from different worlds.

“This two-song project shows a more RnB feels side of me, a softer approach sonically and lyrically,” PANIA says. “Overall, I wanted to share another part of me which is deep, soulful and more of a classic sound inspired by 80’s soul like Sade and Prince. ‘P STANDS 4 PLAYA’ is about trying to balance relationships that may be one-sided or imbalanced. It’s kinda saying, I gave you the warning signs and you didn’t listen, so here we are. ‘2sides (freestyle)’ is one of the most vulnerable songs I’ve ever written, and it reflects on the culture/lifestyle shock I faced whilst growing up and befriending certain people who have not grown up the same way I did, or experienced a childhood like mine. The best way to reflect on the emotions around it for me was through writing this song.”

As well as releasing P PACK, today PANIA supports global superstar Kehlani on her Melbourne concert at the Sidney Myer Bowl, followed by the Souled Out Festival in Brisbane on Saturday.

PANIA is an artist that is developing into a stronger, more exciting musician with every release. P PACK shows she can authentically create multiple different soundscapes without losing the essence of who she is, and makes us really excited for what else is coming from this rising superstar in 2023.

2 PACK is out now via Say Less/Warner Music Australia. You can buy and stream here.

To keep up with all things Pania you can follow her on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
