Swedish superstar Zara Larsson today returns with her first new studio material since 2021, the single ‘Can’t Tame Her’.
Co-written by Larsson with MNEK, MTHR and Grammy-winning US producer Danja (Madonna, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston), ‘Can’t Tame Her’ is a glorious, synth filled throwback to the 1980s with a pulsing beat, lush melodies and a powerful vocal performance from Larsson. Lyrically, it speaks of a mesmerising woman who refuses be restricted by anyone’s opinions and will party all night, even when all the clubs are closed. “She runs her own world…can’t change her, can’t blame her, can’t tame her,” Larsson sings.
Also out today is the music video. Filmed in Prague with choreography from JaQuel Knight, it sees ‘party’ Zara enticing ‘sensible’ Zara into a party, which becomes increasing psychedelic, with gleaming metallic lifts marking the separation of the two worlds.
‘Can’t Tame Her’ is the first single from Larsson upcoming fourth studio album, which she recently revealed on Twitter is ‘7 out of 10’ in terms of its completeness. “It’s not sonically a concept album. Never been that girl,” she said at the end of 2022. “It’s heartbreaking ballads with one track vocals and only a piano, it’s club bangers, it’s hard hitting danja drums, it’s everything I love. High and low and all of that. The red thread is my voice and the quality." The album will be her first to be released on her own label, Sommer House, after she left her long term label TEN Music Group in 2022.
Larsson is one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, with 20 million streams per month on Spotify alone. She has had massive solo global hits with ‘Lush Life’, ‘Never Forget You’ and ‘Ain’t My Fault’ as well as huge collaborations with Clean Bandit (‘Symphony’) and Alesso (‘Words’). This new era in Larsson’s music shows she remains creatively one of the most exciting musicians on the scene today, with her album promising to be a massive highlight of 2023.
