Noah Cyrus returns today with her new single ‘Don’t Put It All On Me’ which features indie-folk band Fleet Foxes.

Written by Cyrus’s brother Braison and produced by Cyrus with Mike Crossey, ‘Don’t Put It All On Me’ is a gorgeous ballad with a hint of country that has an ethereal, haunting pared back soundscape of just guitar and keyboards before building into a stirring, full bodied sound halfway through.

The lyrics tell of a relationship that is under immense strain but the bonds are too strong for it to break permanently: You couldn’t be honest with me / But I know you tried to / But beauty will blind you / Don't put it all on me…Some days we might fall apart / But we're never broken.”

Cyrus has suggested the song relates to tensions within her own family, saying “I have always been the observer in our family, and Braison wrote about how I tend to carry the weight of that on my shoulders.”

‘Don’t Put It All On Me’ is Cyrus’s first major single release since her critically acclaimed debut album The Hardest Part was released in 2022, with the promise of more new music will be coming soon.

“I want my music to offer fans a sense of comforting, peaceful nostalgia,” Cyrus says. “That’s something that I feel so heavily when I listen to music. We all want to connect with our past while also being aware of the present moment. Music does that for me, and this new collection of songs was made with that in mind. I want to evoke that feeling of a comforting friend that a song can be — and allow us all to heal.”

Since first releasing music in 2016 aged just 16, Cyrus has accumulated over three billion global streams and received a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. She has collaborated with major names including her sister Miley, Leon Bridges, Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard and Vance Joy.

Cyrus is an artist who creates music from her pain with raw, at times brutally honest lyrics, however she transforms this into some of the most beautiful, connective songs you will hear. ‘Don’t Put It All On Me’ follows the same path and is a thing of beauty that augurs well for her upcoming new era.

‘Don’t Put It All On Me’ is out now via Sony Music Australia. You can download and stream here.
