Sydney based, Gold Coast raised Charley bursts onto the music scene today with her outstanding debut single ‘Hard For Me’.
A chilled, super smooth, electro-pop track that swings along and winds it’s way into your heart with ease, the song has been part of Charley’s life for almost three years. Written in Nashville with Stephen Schmultz, Tom Jordan & Mitch Thompson in what Charley says was “the best session I've ever done in my life,” ‘Hard For Me’ is both a celebration of female sexuality and the adrenaline rush of re-discovering love for a formerly ex-partner. “Me and my boyfriend had kind of just gotten back together again at that point,” Charley explains. “All of the butterflies were heightened again. I just wanted to write a song about how I felt about him and how it gave me such a rush when I looked at him. Everyone has been there! When you just… melt.”
Although the launch of ‘Hard For Me’ has been many years in the making, Charley has always held a strong vision of what her debut would look like. “[Hard For Me has been] a long time coming,” she says. “And as a Virgo, I am not patient. In my head, this has always been my debut release. It’s got such a special place in my heart. I’ve had such a vision for every single part of it.” That vision includes the Clueless-inspired music video which Charley wrote the treatment for.
Born into a musical family, Charley performed in local musicals as a child and her musical inspirations include Kelly Clarkson and The Veronicas. As well as being a professionally trained makeup artist, Charley has been mentored by UK superstar Jessie J and worked with some of Australia’s brightest young talents, including CXLOE and Carla Wehbe. Just one single in, Charley is showing the kind of talent and polished pop sensibilities that can take her far. Stay close to this young artist and you are likely to be rewarded with a steady flow of delicious pop. We can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
