WANYI releases debut EP 'Twentysomething'
Hong Kong based singer-songwriter-producer WANYI today releases her debut EP Twentysomething. Collecting her previous four singles with new track, the slow burn, shimmering synth-inflected ‘Angel Eyes’, the EP showcases WANYI’s versatility and promise as an artist to watch.
Exploring love and romance, the soundscape mixes the lush, cinematic ballad ‘Loved You Once’ with the electro chill ‘Meet Me Tonight’, the minimalist beats and divine melodies of pop gem ‘All In’ and the soaring ‘Our Escape’, all presided over by WANYI’s beautifully warm and inviting vocals.
“Twentysomething is a collection of songs that I’ve released over the past few months. I wrote and co-produced every song on this record so it means a lot to me because it’s my first body of work that I’ve had full creative control over”, WANYI says. “Twentysomething is a snapshot of my world, my innermost thoughts and feelings weaved into pop songs that hopefully make you want to sing along. There’s an underlying theme of self discovery and choosing love over fear. I wrote most of these songs this past year and in almost every song, you can hear me stumbling and falling in love as I figure out who I am in the process.”
Inspired by artists such as Ariana Grande, Zara Larsson and Troye Sivan, WANYI started writing songs at just 10 years old, using the art form to overcome periods of loneliness, frustration and isolation. Her first single was released last year and she has since attracted critical acclaim from a number of international publications and garnered well over half a million global streams to date. Twentysomething is the ideal way to jump into WANYI’s smooth, immersive pop and is a recommended listen - we are sure there is much more great music to come from this young artist.
