Sydney based singer-songwriter Jordan Laser today releases her new single ‘Slow Motion’. Her first new music since August’s ‘Battleship’, the track is a moody, brooding indie-pop track with touches of electro-synth.
Full of lush melodies paired with Laser’s ethereal vocals, the song’s lyrics detail the impossibility of recapturing a feeling or moment in time that is gone forever, the fleetingness of time mirrored in the at times otherworldly sonic landscape. “‘Slow Motion’ is about wanting to re-capture a feeling you had with someone now that it’s gone,” Laser says. “But more than that, it’s a plea for reassurance that the love actually meant something, despite the deception.”
Laser worked on the track with Adam Spark from indie rock band Birds of Tokyo, saying “I contacted him in 2015 because I loved some of his collaborations and really wanted to meet him/work with him on something. I had most of the parts for 'Slow Motion' but they'd just been sitting there half formed. He helped arrange the song and added the post chorus hook. I didn't really have a plan when I got to his place but within a few hours we had this incredible demo.”
Citing Kate Bush, Stevie Nicks and Massive Attack as some of her musical heroes, Laser has been pursuing music since she was a child. At the age of 7 she began playing piano and by the time she was 13 she was writing songs. Working with Jim Moginie and Rob Hirst from Midnight Oil, she released her first EP in 2013 before stepping away from releasing music to work as a producer. Her latest incarnation as a performer is proving to be her most exciting yet with gorgeous, cinematic music that you will have on repeat.
