Mvlholland releases new single 'Foreign Obstacles'

Australian singer-songwriter Mvlholland (full name Grace Mulholland) has returned with her new single ‘Foreign Obstacles’.

The song is a magnificent electronic pop track with a sonic soundscape that is constantly introducing new hooks and sounds, which remarkably are all manipulated and skewed samples of Mulholland’s vocals. Lyrically the song details the first stages of a new relationship and expertly captures the emotional moments we can all relate to. “I’m sitting in a crowded room / Wishing I was next to you…I don’t want to be at this party if you’re not around.”

“I wrote ‘Foreign Obstacles’ as I was falling in love,” she says. “It was right in the gut-wrenching point, where it’s both terrifying and exhilarating all at once. I kind of knew if what I had kept on moving that I was done for. All I thought about were the things we shared, the moments that didn’t feel important but led us to exactly where we were. I honestly couldn’t tell if I hated or admired being in love because it was the most vulnerable I had ever felt.”

Mulholland grew up between New York, L.A, London and Australia before her family settled in Bali. Her parents often had musicians visiting their home in Bali including Natalia Imbruglia and Bono, with Divinyls frontwoman Chrissy Amphlett making a huge impact on Mulholland, teaching her to sing ‘I Touch Myself’ at age five. She begun writing her own songs at age 11, with her career officially launching last year with the single ‘83’.

Mvlholland creates music which sits between electronic, indie and experimental pop with the stories and voice to make it truly compelling. With more music due this year, 2022 is shaping up to be Mvlholland’s biggest yet.

‘Foreign Obstacles’ is out now. You can download and stream here.
