Azure releases new single 'Prince Ego'
Australian independent singer-songwriter Azure today releases her new single ‘Prince Ego’, which premiered on Travis Mills’ Apple Music radio show.
‘Prince Ego’ follows a soundscape that Azure has made her own in the past few years, indie-punk-rock softened by brushes of electronic pop teamed with relatable lyrics that reflect her often raw and heartbreaking lived experiences.
Based on a true story, the lyrics tell of a girl warning another girl to not get involved with a man she once loved to protect herself from his narcissistic personality.
"'Prince Ego' came about as a 3am idea about a terrible ex and his new dream girl, it summed up perfectly the situation I was in,” Azure says. “I left myself a note and forgot about it until I was in a lockdown writing session with my producer Dominik Dale, he loved the idea and it went from there. I imagined a party where I would see them across the room, so the whole song is what it was like for me being with him, and how I know he'll do it to her.”
Alongside the release of ‘Prince Ego’, Azure has announced she will be launching her first ever national tour in January. Kicking off in Brisbane, she promises the ‘i don’t wanna die anymore’ tour will be a cathartic event for both her and her audience. "I want people to take their problems to the venue and after we're done, they'll leave them there and I'll do the same,” she says.
After the past few years Azure has become an important voice on the Australian music scene, at the same time attracting attention globally, most recently when her 2020 single ‘Bad’ featured in the Showtime drama The L Word. Her music is an authentic representation of her generation and is all the more powerful for that.
A leading voice on the recent expose into sexual abuse within the Australian music industry, Azure is not just a talented musician but an important political figure and truth teller Australian music needs. Her music is a blast to listen to, but never forget the message her music projects - “always look out for other women, no matter how devastated or angry or jealous you might be in the moment when you are compared to someone else, always have another woman's back. Girl power forever.”
