UK breakout star Issey Cross today returns with her new single ‘Sleepwalking’, which features fellow new talent Songer. It comes ahead of her debut Australian tour which kicks off next week.
Co-written by Cross and produced by Shapes & Sudley, ‘Sleepwalking’ is her first new music since her breakthrough single ‘Bittersweet Goodbye’ hit the UK top 20 in October last year.
Starting off with a gentle guitar and sweet vocals from Cross, it soon erupts into a drum and bass floor filler, the sound she has made her name with. A thread of melancholy runs through the track, with Cross singing of anxiety, pressure and the unbearable sensation of feeling mentally lost: “Tell me it will be alright…I’m still waiting for a touch of oxytocin / To feel safe enough to close my eyes.”
Cross first released music in 2021 with the single ‘Who’, with her debut EP Mirrors Don’t Lie dropping in March the same year. She scored her first top 40 hit in 2022 with the track ‘Used to This’ with Wilkinson, and last year her single ‘Bittersweet Goodbye’, produced by Luude, which sampled The Verve hit ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ hit number 19 on the UK charts and earned a Silver record accreditation.
With a mix of sweet electronica, thumping drum and bass and introspective lyrics, Cross produces music that makes you want to dance and also pulls at the heartstrings. A new talent to watch with interest, Cross is destined to go far.
‘Sleepwalking’ is out now via Warner Music Australia. You can buy and stream here.
