Delta Goodrem releases new single 'Billionaire' and announces sixth album + book release

Australian superstar Delta Goodrem today launches her first release of 2021 with the single ‘Billionaire’ along with exciting news about her sixth album and her first ever book release.
Written and produced by Goodrem, ‘Billionaire’ is the fourth single to be released from her sixth studio album Bridge Over Troubled Dreams which will be released on May 14th and available for pre-order now.
‘Billionaire’ is an storming, anthemic track which is something of a sonic departure for Goodrem. Starting off with gentle piano, it quickly steps up into a rollicking country-blues tinged pop track with Goodrem’s voice sounding nothing less than gorgeous with its raw passion. Cinematic in its breadth and production it is the kind of song that could easily soundtrack a Hollywood film.
Strongly embedded in girl power, Goodrem says the lyrics reflect an incident from her late twenties when an acquaintance had jovially suggested she just ‘go marry rich’ (using artistic licence this was changed to her mother in the final track). “I’ve always been about leading with my heart and soul, and this song is about flipping social constructs on their head and saying, ‘I’m going to stand on my own two feet. I’m going to make things happen for myself,’” Goodrem says. “‘Billionaire’ is one of my favourite songs on the record. It’s gritty, unfiltered girl power.”
Of her upcoming album Bridge Over Troubled Dreams, out May 14, Goodrem says: “I have not tried to chase a specific sound; this album and body of work is me storytelling. In creating this album, I wanted to hear all the songs with live musicians. Every song I started at the piano. Every instrument is recorded live and because of that, it has created a cohesive sound that has been captured.”
Alongside the album, on May 14 Goodrem will also be releasing her debut book, also called Bridge Over Troubled Dreams. In the book, she shares the stories and inspirations behind each of the tracks on the album as well as revealing the truth behind the lyrics. “This chapter is about truth. It’s about transparency; saying things out loud that I’ve always held inside. It’s about who I am and who I have always been deep down,” Goodrem says. Accompanying the stories will be never-before-seen pictures from her personal collection, candid behind-the-scenes shots, unreleased tour photos and personal snaps from her childhood. Bridge Over Troubled Dreams the book will be available in hardcover, ebook and enhanced audiobook, narrated by Goodrem and featuring acoustic teasers from her new album.
With 2021 set to be one of Goodrem’s most exciting years yet, she will round off the year with the Bridge Over Troubled Dreams tour throughout September and October across Australia and New Zealand. Tickets on sale here.
Delta Goodrem has been a mainstay of the Australian music scene for close to two decades and ‘Billionaire’ is proof her ability to create incredible, innovative pop is only getting stronger. Bridge Over Troubled Dreams is shaping up to be one of the highlights of the year and its release can’t come soon enough.
