Dande and The Lion return with new single 'Higher Places'

Sydney four-piece indie-pop band Dande and The Lion today return with their new single ‘Higher Places’. The track, which starts out as a gentle ballad before morphing into a guitar driven indie-rock track is the band’s first release since the 1980s-pop-punk-synth inflected single ‘Twilight Highway’ and after a year of interruption and change sees the band rebound in style.

“I wrote the intro riff and the rough skeleton to ‘Higher Places’ a few years ago while I was in the UK, and then I left it in my little book of notes,” singer and songwriter Natassa Zoë says. “Some time after that, I ended up in Sydney, and Dande and The Lion formed. I remember writing the rest of this song one morning while I was having a cuppa, staring at the ocean. The entire song flowed straight to the page in one go, which is a rare occurrence. I knew at that moment that the music I’d written years prior would be a perfect fit for this story. I wanted to take the listener on a journey with me to feel the excitement, love, joy, and pain of opening your heart to another human, and connecting with them at a deeper level.”

There is an undeniable charm and heart to Dande and The Lion’s music and with their meshing of genres - there are elements of indie, pop, synthpop, electro, punk and rock embedded in their soundscape - they create songs that cater to whatever mood you are in without losing any of their sonic uniqueness. Their return after almost two years is greatly welcomed snd we can’t wait to hear more from them in 2021.

‘Higher Places’ is out now. You can buy and stream here.
