Chelsea Warner releases new single 'Drama' and give you 5 best places in Sydney to escape the drama in your life
Sydney’s Chelsea Warner today returns with her new single ‘Drama’. The song is a smooth R&B jam with moody, late night vibes and explores the stage of young adulthood when the energy of drama imbibes every day life with a spark.
“‘Drama' was written about a side of myself that I don't like; one that craves attention and loves tension,” Warner says. “Written in the haze of adolescence, it's an ode to the stereotype of the dramatic teenage girl and how it makes young women feel about their own emotions.”
Today also sees the release of the music video for ‘Drama’ which Warner made with videographer Kezia Suryaputra. “When my more dramatic side strikes, it makes me feel like I could rep being a brooding villainess, capable of anything - which is what this video shows,” Warner reveals. “Kezia and I wanted to represent the inside of my head spiralling as I over-dramatise a situation, resorting to plotting a murder as retaliation for a (probably unimportant) wronging. I wanted it to reflect the glitzy, untouchable persona of my ego, who thinks she's infallible and always right. In reality, I try to stay quite reserved, but just for this song I wanted to indulge the hyper-emotional self I try to quash, one that I came to know quite well in teenage girlhood.”
In honour of the release of ‘Drama’ Chelsea Warner has given Women In Pop a list of the top 5 things to do in Sydney when you want to take break from the drama in your life. After you have grabbed some inspiration from the list, check out the music video for ‘Drama’ below.
5 things to do in Sydney to escape from Drama (and life itself)
By Chelsea Warner
1. Go to the Art Gallery Of New South Wales, specifically:
Peruse the ground level old-school art to remind yourself that nothing is as dramatic as an 18th century man with frilly sleeves. Or alternatively, use the still life for some meditative, calm contemplation - paintings of fruit always calm me down.
2. Listen to the buskers at Circular Quay
There’s a nice patch of grass outside the MCA you can share with the ibises.
3. Listen to a podcast and walk around the Botanical Gardens
The Opera House end of the Botanical Gardens usually gets really sunny in the afternoon so sometimes it’s nice to visit around then. I also love going for walks with friends here.
4. Order 16 eggplant dumplings for yourself and only yourself
I truly think going alone to gigs, dinner, movies, you name it, is the greatest experience one can have. I love traversing Sydney by myself and finding things to do. It gets me simultaneously in and out of my own head. My favourite spots have been in Surry Hills and Chippendale.
5. Window shop at the QVB
Preferably listening to ‘Rich Girl’ by Gwen Stefani.
