Tina Arena teams up with SHOUSE on remake of iconic single 'Chains'

Published 23 August 2024

Legendary Australian artist Tina Arena has teamed up with Melbourne duo SHOUSE for a remake of her hit single ‘Chains’, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

Originally a powerful ballad, ‘Chains’ has been transformed into a deep, electronic dance track by SHOUSE. Arena’s vocals, which she re-recorded for this version, are still as emotive, rich and compelling as they were first time around.

Originally released in 1994, ‘Chains’ was at the time of release Arena’s first new music in over three years and reinvigorated her pop career. Peaking at number 4 in Australia, it went on to become a global hit, soaring into the top 10 in UK and the top 40 in the US. ‘Chains’ featured on Arena’s Don’t Ask album, which also became a global smash, hitting number one in Australia and becoming one of Australia’s biggest selling albums of all time, achieving 10 x Platinum status. It also scored 10 ARIA Award nominations, winning five including Album of the Year.

"Revisiting 'Chains' with SHOUSE has been an incredible journey,” Arena says. “Their fresh approach has given the song a new dimension while staying true to the essence that made it special in the first place. I’m thrilled for fans old and new to experience this new chapter of 'Chains.'"

Alongside the release of ‘Chains’, Arena has also dropped a mini-documentary on the making of this new version, and will also be touring in November and December to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of Don’t Ask. Called Don’t Ask…Again, Arena will be joined on the tour by US superstar Richard Marx and legends of the Australian music scene Kate Ceberano, Daryl Braithwaite, Southern Sons and 1927. Kicking off in South Australia, the tour will visit Bribie Island and Mornington before finishing at the Sydney Opera House forecourt. Tickets are on sale today.
