PREMIERE: Music video for Lucy Sugerman's new single 'golden boy'

Australian Lucy Sugerman releases her new single ‘golden boy’ on April 29th and today the music video premieres exclusively on Women In Pop.

Taking a cheeky, light-hearted view of a devastating breakup, the indiepop tune is inspired by Sugerman’s love of 60s and 70s singer-songwriters and bedroom pop. “‘golden boy’ captures that stage of the breakup process where you’re angry as a coping mechanism, and trying to focus on the bad side of a relationship as a method of moving on,” Sugerman says. “I know writing it was super cathartic and a huge emotional turning point for me.” The song is the third single to be released from her upcoming debut EP.

Sugerman directed the video for ‘golden boy’ herself and it is absolutely hypnotic in its simplicity, with Sugerman’s charm and charisma keeping you watching until the very end. “I created the ‘golden boy’ video with my very talented friend Harry Chalker at a brand new creative space opening up in Canberra called Darling St Studios,” Sugerman says. “We started by off by picking the contrasting colour palette and wanted to channel Napoleon Dynamite crossed with pop star. A lot of the performing was improvised and the toilet paper was a last minute idea to compliment a certain lyric referring to a**holes. We dreamed the video up to match the silly and light-hearted nature of the song and highlight the tongue-in-cheek lyrics.”

‘golden' boy’ the single and music video will be released on Thursday 29 April but for now you can watch the video exclusively on Women In Pop below.
