K-pop icon LISA (full name Lalisa Manobal), one quarter of superstar group BLACKPINK, has recently released her new single ‘Rockstar’, her first solo release since 2021.
Co-written and co-produced by Ryan Tedder (Taylor Swift, Adele, Hailee Steinfeld), ‘Rockstar’ was first teased in June when LISA launched her TikTok account, which set a Guinness World Record by gaining one million followers in 2 hours and 18 minutes.
‘Rockstar’ is a delicious blend of hard edged rap and lush, warm pop vocals, with staccato electronic beats abruptly switching into swirling melodies with a pop-R&B vibe. The lyrics see LISA celebrate who she is and own her status as a global superstar: ‘Every city that I go is my city / Gold teeth sittin' on the dash / She a rockstar / Make your favourite singer wanna rap’.
Also out now is the music video for ‘Rockstar’. Directed by Henry Schofield and choreographed by Sean Bankhead, the video was filmed in Bangkok in LISA’s native Thailand. It sees her taking over the city, celebrating authentic Thai street life as she shows off her rockstar self with incredible choreography.
‘Rockstar’ is LISA’s first single released under the new partnership with her management company LLOUD Co. and RCA Records. Founded earlier this year by LISA, LLOUD was created to create a platform for her to showcase her overall vision in music and entertainment.
‘Rockstar’ is a monumental track: edgy, addictive and overflowing with attitude. Proving what an absolutely magnetic performer LISA is, she has opened an exciting new chapter in her career which is shaping up to be nothing short of thrilling.
‘Rockstar’ is out now via LLOUD Co./RCA Records. You can buy and stream here.
