Alt-country artist Tori Forsyth has released her latest single. ‘Good Enough’, featuring vocals and guitar from Kasey Chambers.
Written by Forsyth and produced by Scott Horscroft (Alison Wonderland, Tkay Maidza, Silverchair), ‘Good Enough’ is a gorgeously gentle and introspective track with a yearning vocal from Forsyth telling a melancholic story of how we become more self-critical and doubt our ability as we grow from children to adults. “I chip away at diamonds through the rubble and the rough / Wondering when good will be good enough,” she sings.
“‘Good Enough’ is simply about the raw emotion of isolation, unseen effort and feeling like you're missing the mark. Whatever that mark might be,” Forsyth says. “I felt like a little girl writing it because I think it's something we can begin feeling at a very young age. I wanted it to be an innocent questioning of, when will I accept that I am good enough? Towards the end, the song has a bit of light, showing that we are the only ones who can truly measure what that is for ourselves; everyone else's perception is irrelevant.”
‘Good Enough’ is lifted from Forsyth’s third studio album All We Have Is Who We Are which will be released on 3 May. Featuring ten tracks, including the moody ‘Made Your Bed’ and the Golden Guitar Award nominated duet with Shane Nicholson ‘Sometimes’, the album was born after Forsyth took a break from “the hamster wheel” and returned to her parent’s farm in country Queensland, spending months living in a treehouse and listening to country music.
"Returning to the family farm, it was the grounding I needed to be able to determine where I was going with who I am, what I actually wanted out of my life,” she says. “It got me off the hamster wheel I was spinning. This record sums that up. Every record I have ever released is me, a version of me. This is where I am now and I couldn't be more proud or more content. It just feels like home."
After the rock vibes of 2021’s Provlépseis, All We Have Is Who We Are sees Forsyth return to her country roots, while still retaining the alt sound of her earlier releases. With her remarkable lyricism, beautiful voice and beguiling music, Forsyth is an artist to fall in love with and All We Have Is Who We Are looks set to be a highlight of her career.
