Thandi Phoenix is back with new single 'Hot Sauce'

Australian-South African singer-songwriter Thandi Phoenix (pronounced Tuhn-dee) today is back with her funky new single ‘Hot Sauce’.

Written and produced with Arona Mane, who Phoenix worked with on her last single ‘Guarantees’, ‘Hot Sauce’ is a funky pop track dripping with attitude and featuring dashes of disco, soul and jazz. Its addictive melodies and mesmerising beat will have you moving instantly.

"I wrote ‘Hot Sauce’ in Sydney last year with Arona Mane,” Phoenix says. “I remember it was a stinking hot day, we were in the studio, and Arona played me the beat, he said, "see what comes out," then hit record. It was a freestyle that stuck. Lyrically it’s super playful, and the beat just captures that summertime feel. Anyone who knows me knows how obsessed I am with hot sauce, so it only felt right to call it that.”

‘Hot Sauce’ is the first single from Phoenix’s upcoming EP Rebirth, a five track collection that is due for release in June. It fittingly marks the rebirth of Phoenix as an independent artist after walking away from a major label to take control of her music. “I got sick of needing approval; I wanted to release the music I loved,” she says. After a period of intense personal challenges, including the loss of family members and a breakup, Phoenix’s new music reflects an artist who has shaped adversity into growth and new creative highs.

After starting her career in jazz, Phoenix broke through in 2018 with the electronic pop hit ‘My Way’, produced by Rudimental, which has racked up close to 4.5 million streams to date on Spotify alone. Her 2021 collaboration with Mell Hall ‘Knock Knock’ holds the record for the longest reigning female lead number 1 single on the Australian ARIA Club chart, and she has performed at some of Australia’s biggest festivals including Splendour In The Grass, Spilt Milk and Womadelaide, as well as the 2018 Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.
