PREMIERE: Mousey's drops new single 'The Bench' from her upcoming second album
New Zealand’s Mousey (real name Sarena Close) releases her new single ‘The Bench’ tomorrow, but today you can listen to it exclusively on Women In Pop.
Lifted from her upcoming second album My Friends, ‘The Bench’ is a jangly, frantic indie-pop track that buzzes along full of some glorious melodies that harken back to the glory days of 1980s shoegaze-indie pop while remaining completely contemporary. Focusing on her bad experiences and frustrations with boys, Mousey says: “Okay so my mental health isn’t great, I hate going to clubs and I wish guys weren’t so superficial when it comes to women and girls. Please enjoy my feminist bop’”
Inspired by artists such as Thom Yorke, Regina Spektor, Paul McCartney, Angel Olsen and Sufjan Stevens. Mousey first burst onto the music scene in 2019 with her debut album Lemon Law and single ‘Extreme Heights’ which earned her a prestigious APRA Silver Scroll Award nomination.
With a sound that defies genre and is both uplifting and melancholic, Mousey is clearly one of the most talented and exciting new talent in New Zealand right now. ‘The Bench’ is available on all platforms from tomorrow, but for now enjoy it exclusively below on Women In Pop.
