Tasmanian born artist Bec Stevens released her new single ‘Big Worry’ last week, her first new music since 2019. Today the music video for the song premieres exclusively on Women In Pop.

The track is an anthemic, rousing rock track with a raw, passionate vocal from Stevens exploring her mental health struggles.

“‘Big Worry’ is about trying to exist with imposter syndrome, anxiety and all the fun symptoms that blur between,” she says. “I wrote this song when I was having a big moment of reflection, not the type that makes you feel better, the type that makes you laugh (probably aloud if you are anything like me) and say to yourself, ‘who the HELL do I think i am? A functioning member of society? Nice try, Bec!’”

The single is Stevens’ since being signed to Damaged Record Co, who will also release her upcoming album. “As long time listeners and supporters of Bec Stevens, the signing felt like a natural move and we can’t wait for you to hear her new music (which by the way, is absolute fire!), Damaged director Stevie Williams says. “We’re constantly enamoured by Bec’s music as she seamlessly blends elements of punk, pop, folk, rock and is always delivered in an electric live show. Now we get to release her music on our label, what a dream!”.

Directed by Nick Manuell, Stevens first conceived the ideas behind the music video in 2021.

“This clip came to fruition after 6 months of me sending my mate and incredible director Nick Manuell excessive voice memos explaining my chaotic ideas,” she says. “Hat's off to him for making sense of my madness and turning it into something tangible, also to Chiara Mocnik who was our legendary SFX makeup artist! It turned out exactly how I planned it, though it makes me laugh how easy I thought it would be.

“I was like “Then in this part everyone will chase me down the hall and tackle me to the ground and start eating me in one take!”, when in reality we had to film it multiple times, and turns out throwing your body at the ground to emulate a hectic fall actually hurts like hell and then adding to the pain by having your friends voluntarily jump on you (the casualties were high that day.)

“As for the concept, I’ve had many moments when I’ve felt like a zombie invasion would be a far better alternative to facing the reality of the world we’re living in, though in that new reality I’ve always imagined myself surviving far longer than I do in this clip...The essence of the clip’s narrative, however the violent and gory end, is that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel (or hallway in this case.) The wedding went ahead, everyone I loved was there and conclusively in real life and apocalypse I learned the acceptance of the good, the bad and the zombification.”

Watch the video below exclusively on Women In Pop today before it’s general release.

‘Big Worry’ is out now via Damaged Record Co. You can download on iTunes and stream on Apple Music and Spotify.
