PREMIERE: Aya Yves releases stunning new single 'Brave'
Australia’s Aya Yves kicks off 2021 in style with the release of her fourth single ‘Brave’. Officially released this Friday 8th January, you can listen to it exclusively today on Women In Pop.
A beautiful, piano driven, lush ballad that builds up a gentle electro shuffling beat throughout the song, the track is a heartfelt reminder to us all to face changes in life with bravery. “When we went into the session, the energy for the song was centred around being scared of new relationships,” says Yves. “But I wasn’t going into a new relationship, and as the song progressed it started taking on a new meaning for me. I’d recently moved cities, quit my day job in pursuit of full time music and I was terrified. I had to back myself and believe in the journey. I see ‘Brave’ as a reminder to myself that change is good, and growth happens outside your comfort zone. The feeling in the writing room that day for me was one of coming home, which is a rare feeling for someone who’s lived out of home since age 15. It holds such a special place in my heart, and I get that feeling back every time I get to perform it.”
Co-written with Bri Clark, Josh Lovegrove and Jordi White, and produced by Xavier Dunn, ‘Brave’ is the next step in the Aya Yves project for the artist formerly known as Vendulka. Throughout 2020, Yves has been an artist who has come into her own, displaying a real depth of artistry and sonic diversity - from the soul pop of ‘(in)Sanity’, to the glitchy electro of ‘Smart Girls’ and October’s poignant ballad ‘Dear E.' - and with the release of ‘Brave’, her output in 2021 promises to be just as special.
