Superstar Paris Hilton has released her new single ‘I’m Free’, featuring Rina Sawayama. It is the first single released from her upcoming album Infinite Icon, due for release on September 6.
‘I’m Free’ interpolates the classic 1997 Ultra Naté house track ‘Free’ and turns it into a slinky, chilled electronic-pop track that is dreamy while still retaining an invigorating pulse and late night dancefloor feel. Lyrically it sees Hilton reclaim and own her confidence and power: ‘There's nothing in the world that could bring me down / There's no one in the room that could take my crown.’
“A song can change your life, and that’s what ‘Free’ by Ultra Naté did for me,” Hilton says. “I heard it for the first time at a club in New York City shortly after being released from the Provo Canyon School where I experienced mental and physical abuse. For me, the song represents the journey of healing and finding your voice. It has served as an anthem of hope and a guiding light, and I’m honoured to have had the chance to create this new version. I’m also so grateful to have Rina Sawayama’s mesmerising vocals and lyrics on the song. Together, Rina and I hope to inspire fans around the world to embrace their own strong voices and feel free to fully express themselves.”
‘I’m Free’ features on Hilton’s upcoming second album Infinite Icon. It is Hilton’s first album since her 2006 debut album Paris, which spawned the classic single ‘Stars Are Blind’, which peaked in the top 10 in Australia and the UK and climbed into the top 20 in the USA. Executive produced by Australia’s Sia, the 12 tracks on the album are a self-reflective journey through Hilton’s life, exploring themes of fame, female empowerment, mental health, and motherhood.
One of the most successful self-made artists and entrepreneurs of her generation, from one of the world’s first reality TV stars, through to fragrances, fashion, music and her best selling books Hilton has influenced pop culture in the 21st century in more ways than you probably realise. With a more mature outlook and a empowering message, her return to music is a welcome opportunity to dive back into her world and drown in its pop perfection.
