Miiesha has released her latest single ‘Made For Silence’. The single is the second taste of new music from the Anangu/Torres Strait Islander woman after last year’s critically acclaimed debut album Nyaaringu. Following May’s emotional, R&B single ‘Damaged’, ‘Made For Silence’ takes Miiesha in a whole new direction as she embraces electro in a track that would quite easily be at home on a late night dance floor. “I never want to be put in a box, and I want to make songs people might not expect from me,” Miiesha says. “I love exploring new sounds and pushing that, pushing my voice. Life has so many moments and changes and emotions, so I want my music too as well.”
Thematically, the song continues Miiesha’s exploration of her troubled relationship with family members and how she processed the accompanying grief. “My anger is not quiet / But I taught it to be still” she sings. It is a story that is continued in the music video for ‘Made For Silence’, also out now.
“The video for ‘Made for Silence’ continues the story of’ Damaged’,” Miiesha explains. “In ‘Damaged’ the car represented my grandmother who couldn’t carry my family forward anymore. And I had to leave them behind to focus on surviving this grief myself, before I can go back for them. In ‘Made for Silence’ I’m moving forward with what she left behind for me, she gave me that strength to carry on. I’m celebrating that strength and the connection we had.”
With her talent to authentically inhabit polar opposite genres of music, Miiesha continues to move from strength to strength as an artist and her musical output for the rest of 2021 is promising to be highlights of the coming months.
